New Year and New(poker) Goals

So have you decided on your poker goals for 2011 ?

I have! My goals for the year are to make more cash playing poker than I do working for a pay check . :)

To do this I will need to make 1000 a week average. A lofty goal with most cash games close by being 1/2 and 2/5 nl, but there are several live MTT coming up with 100k guarantee's and some wsop events within a few hours drive and buy ins under 500.00. Just a couple of decent top ten finishes should help !!!!!!!

I have not posted in a while due to a new job. Finally getting in the swing of things and have some time to post.

First thing is Work Sucks!!! Any one playing poke for a living and making it, consider yourself lucky.

I have had a good run playing poker in November and December. January I have not played any as of today, but will be trying to close out the month strong. This will allow me to play several live tournaments in February. There are several live MTT's in Tulsa (2 x 100kG 300 buy in) and some WSOP events in Tunica and Durant, OK. On the Okla and TX border. These are 300 to 1500 to enter and should be soft.

I used to like playing Purple lounge poker room, then they banned USA players :( Oh well maybe this year we will be allowed back in :)

I am an affiliate there and have made some decent money with the program, I used to just play poker with the cash. This kept me from depositing :)

I have started playing more cash ring games to build the bank roll I have on line. So many players think that NL Holdem is the way to go, but I am going to have to disagree. Why play where the most players have a lot of experience ? You should not !! Play some 8 game or Badugi. Both of these games are full of new player and are getting more popular by the day.

8 game mix is where most of the big cash games are going to be and will teach you to crush the lower limits in just about any game.

100.00 casino challenge (WSOP)

With Chris Ferguson taking a 0 roll to 10k online, gave me the idea to emulate the challenge live. I will not be starting @ 0.00 but 400.00. The min buy in is 100.00 on 1/2 nlhe, so a bankroll of 400.00 is quite small to start. Will I will bust, probably. But if I can get a good start in the first few games I should be able to make my goal of playing in the WSOP.

My goal will be to create a minimum 3k bank roll for the upcoming WSOP.
Bankroll guide lines:
1) I can buy into any game for 100.00 min or 20% of roll until bankroll reaches 3000.
2) @ 3k I will use a 10% buy in for any cash game and 5% for tournaments.

Much more aggressive than Chris's bankroll guide lines, but this is my first try. I am Starting Monday 2/22/10 and will keep a daily bankroll on my blog. My goal is to play a min of 5 days a week, more if I am feeling good.

I will make my goal,which is why playing poker is clearly a game
of skill and not luck. Cause I am the nutz baby.

Played a while to day and was card dead ending up losing 140.00 with KJ < 45hearts. I rased 10.00 pre and got 4 callers flopped a jack wit 2 hearts I shoved 130 in to a 56.00 pot and a flush draw calls me with crap hand and wins. I have not played since then. Just running bad, I will go back next monday and bust his ass. :)

Have not updated in a while, but have been playing. Played well the first of the week and up close to 500.00 thanks to a 60.00 tournament we chopped for 400 6 ways. Not even sure where my bankroll stands.
Overall this week I am break even after paying bills and a loss of 200.000 to a big stack calling a raise with 10d 2d to my A K. He makes a big bet on the flop and I move all in of course he catches the 3rd diamond on the river. :(

Well Saturday is the big day, the 350.00 100k nl tournament starts. Not sure how many players yet, but should be 300. 286 to make the guarantee, so I would expect and hope for more 500 would be great 1000 would be amazing :)

I have been playing good and online I have been concentrating on deep stack and 10- 15 min blinds in hope that this will help my play live in a week. I have gone deep a few times with 84/1511 16/6101 both time getting all in with the best and on the flop just to get called by Ace high and get counter fitted (tilt inducing).

Over all I am playing much better and I am on track for a good score. Cashing in 15% range of my mtt's this year. I think my short - mid stack play has improved, now to close out the deal on a mtt.

I also have been doing better in my investing, I will buy a percentage of a player equity in tournaments or a series of games. Profit so far is around 100%. Take that Charles Swabb. If your interested in buying some stock let me know, Ill try to send you in the right direction. I use a couple of sites. 1 for some quick hit stocks and 1 for longer term mixed with some short term stocks.

I came in 200th place out of 800+ runners only paid 72 spots, so no money for me :( I did win the buy in in a cash game so no loss. Still a sick feeling. Seems like my last table was out to get me, every time I raised some one would wake up with a better hand. My last hand I was in the blind with 88 hijack flats with QQ GG me.

Snatch It's are a cool new way to invest and take a shot at a big tournament. For each snatch it a series of tickets are issued, each ticket represents 1 share in a stock for that tournament. When all the shares are purchased a winner is selected at random to play the tournament as the horse in the stock. Worst case you own shares in a lotto stock, best case you get to play that tournament! So what are you waiting for, get some tickets and take a shot!

Buying a ticket is a lock for that stock, purchasing a ticket then backing out can result in increases in your risk level. We don't want people buying tickets then not paying when they don't lose, so don't do it! The drawing is 100% completely random, and you can buy multiple tickets to up your chances! Snatch-It's go off as soon as they sell out!

Player Invested Community Stocks... Also known as PICS. In a PICS you choose a game that you want to play, and you basically hedge your action against the action of other players in your PICS. So lets say you pick a tournament you want to play. You submit it for approval, one of the 3 PICS pools is chosen at random and you are entered in that PICS. If you cash half of what you win is yours the other half goes to the PICS(with no stakeback). Then you also get half of any players actions who play after you. So essentially you trade 50% of your action for 50% of others in your pool. Your total shares are based on how much you contribute. The bigger your amount invested in the PICS the bigger your cut.

If at any point the prize pool for a PICS hits twice what the total $$ invested for that PICS is, the PICS automatically closes so people don't keep playing for a share of the profits. It's a great way to play staked on whatever you want! All games must be approved prior to the start of the tournament so get your request in early! To be safe find an admin in chat so you can get instant approval.

Miniftop #4 1798/6523 played well got into top 200 then bad beats kept coming final hand AQ
vs A5. He calls 75% of his stack preflop and flops a strait. I have my hands hold up I am top 100. :(
I gave up on ftop after another draw out AQ vs Q6 600 bet pre antes 100/200 flop was A 10 6 rainbow Led out 1000 and got snap called turn was a 6 GG me . This guy calls 50% of his stack with a 6 , just sic beat.

But the good news I have staked a few players and made close to 200 along with my cash games and sng I am up close to 400.00. If you have never staked or been staked you should check into some staking.

Playing For Stacks

When I sit at a 1/2 or 2/5 table my goal is to take as much as I can off the table. I am not there to make friends or waste my time, like many of the recreational players. I am in it for the money. This may sound harsh, but I need to pay the bills. I like to have fun at the tables and I never berate other players or talk down to them, I want them to have a good time giving me there chips.

Every one wants to win a big pot. you have to be willing and able to get your money in good and play the hand in a way that will convince your opponent to call your bet.

Say you sitting on a 1/2 table. To simplify every one has 200 chips.OK your sitting on a pair of 10s some one raise to $10 3 players call. The flop : Js 5d 10d. The preflop better makes it $20 to go, you flat call. The turn is a 6h. The pre flop raiser cks and you make it $20 and the raiser calls. The river is a 3s. The original raiser checks and you bet $30 and get a call. The raiser shows As Jh, and you flopped a set of 10's.

This was a stacking opportunity, sure you made $100. you could have easily stacked you opponent. The bets were to small. You should be willing to get all the chips in when the opportunity arises. You should have raised the flop to a pot sized bet of $50. then if you get called split the rest of you chips and bet the turn for $60 and river for $70.This is just one example of how bet sizing can help you to stack your opponent. Don't be afraid to get those chips in there when the time is right.

The first tournament held @ the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino since the name change and its going to be a good time for all.

The tournament series starts October 29 with the Jack and Jill 120.00 buy in, this tournament is a team event. 1 man and 1 woman take turns playing 1 level then switch. Usually a good turn out for this tournament and plenty of cocktails will be served.

The Hard Rock Open runs from Oct29 - Nov 10. There will be buy-ins from120.00 to 3150.00 for the ME. There will also be some STT for tournament chips starting at 45.00 and some Mega Satellites for 340.00 to the Main Event.

I have read several blogs trying to get a feel for what other players are doing. Wow so much touchy, feeley crap and what if people to know I play poker. UH your blogging.

Update on my quest:
I have been running decent and paying my bills so far, while keeping the roll intact. Although I have not been playing much this month only racking up 36 hours. Starting May 22nd I will play 12 hours per day this should get me to Las Vegas by June 18. and get me qualified for the 15k freeroll about the only bonus my casino gives lately. I want to play in event 54# 1000.00 buy in, 54# is a new event added this year. This will also get me to Vegas just in time for the main event< Best time to play cash.

Update: Mt first attempt at 12 hours lasted 10 lol but I did make 1000 profit.

FYI: The the Cherokee Casino will be changing to the Hard Rock Casino in June. This should be a promising improvement. They will be holding The Hard Rock Open poker tournament in November, not any info on the tourny yet but should be goot.

Poker Stars -- Full Tilt I'm coming for you

It's been a while since I posted a new blog. I try to post 1 a week or at least 2 a month.

Working so many hours is bad for my poker, which is like anything else practice make perfect. I think I have that fixed, because I got fired. No warning just Bam, your done son. LOL

Ok, I have 1000.00 poker bank roll and I am going to play live and on line and try not to go broke in the first week :)
I play as suited35 on Poker stars and PeaceBrother on Full Tilt Poker I expect some railers or challengers.

Live I will be playing local at Cherokee Casino untill I get to a bank roll of 2500-3000. Then I am going to find a bigger game, Cherrokee is great for 1/2 with some decent 2/5 action at times. 30 + tables is a decent sized room, but the action does not heat up untill some of the big tournaments are in town.

I am going to play a few events so I thought I would post the schedule in case a few of you might want to join me.

My last two live tournaments Played well even though I did not get much sleep before or after the tournament because of work.
I bubbled the first one with JJ against KK in the big blind, the second one I placed 10th for 2k.

This year I am playing the 300 nl to start and a 300.00 super sat that will pay 1 of 10 into the main event. I may play a few more just depends on the work schedule and if I cash in the tournaments. I would like to play the Jack and Jill because it a fun tourny with lots of drinking and women. Four of my favorite things Women, Poker, Booze and food.

On another note I am looking for some players to stake. Are you a micro grinder who can get it done, Post your stats here, Shark Scope, Pokerdb or Officialpokerrankings. What have you got to loose?

Poker Forums Free Roll

I understand the lure of free rolls, and winning or going deep in a free roll is just as satisfying as any cash tournament for the first time winner. But how do you get there.

This is where the internet forums come into play. There are many different poker forums where you can read and learn from other poker player. As with anything you must be able to separate the bull shit from the quality info. There are also staking forums where you can play cash, the usual rule is a 50/50 split + stake back.

Where to start, I would suggest joining several of the Larger (member base) forums.(read the rules for posting) Cards Chat, Pocket Fives, 2+2 and Rail Birds These forums are popular and contain a lot of poker content, and many poker forums put on free roll tournaments.

Staking sites: I would approach these one at a time. Why? because you want to build a reputation on site and get to know the members There are several out there on the world wide web. I would suggest pokerbytrade they are a new player on the staking scene but the software there is by far the best I have seen. Just about every thing is tracked. Each stake has a chart where you can check on your horses progress and on your own.

I have Missed the first tournament, god that sucks. Just got a new job and was at work and could not make it in time, Should be able to play tomorrow at 6pm cst.

I so want to play in the final tourny, but if I cant play in at least three tournaments my chance in low.
72 players so far have qualified and only 432 will be in finals. Top 10 will get a min 530 T$ and top 100 get some nice tournament buy ins.

Lost in Poker

I have been playing poker for many years. I play when ever I have a free time, freerolls , the Ferguson dollar tourny and tournaments with buy ins up to 120.00 online. I play some brick and mortar tournaments locally like the 35.00 + 1 re-buy +1 add-on and also some of the larger tournaments, but no buy-ins over 350.00 so far.
Occasionaly I feel lost, so I read many blog of pro/semi pro players who have gone through a bad streak, burn out or just have a break down and think poker was the cause of all there unhappiness. What a bunch of conceited pre madonnas. If you read blogs from some of the older pros (real deal) you will never here them talk down about there poker road. This may just be an maturity issue since so many of the online pros are so young and think they have all of the knowledge and experience. Just wait 20 years and see who's still around.

Poker GPS:

Set a goal.
what do you want from poker, a hobby, extra money or move to the next level.

Bankroll management.
No such thing if you pull up cashier and the total in account is 57.95. lol

Join a forum or 4.
Not all advice is good but great places to ask question and get some feed back.

Keep learning.
This has to be the most important aspect to getting better.

Have Fun, your going to loose some very painful hands. Get over it and move on. I dont want to here about it and I don't think any one including your Ma cares.

Fishing is a great sport. But can it be done online?

I have played on stars today, the first time in a while. The three tournaments I played were good, all met or exceeded the gaurantee. I chipped up for the first hour and was sitting in good position to make the money on all three. This is when my doom switch turned on to full engage. AK race 77 looser, KK race AK looser and the final top pair looser to a 7 on the turn for 777. Oh well some days you cant win a race.

I have been playing live more than on line. I like live games when playing for cash. Tournamnets I like both live and on line.
Online you can play smaller buyin tournaments and still have decent prize pools, Live buyins are larger and so are the prize pools.

Right now Poker Stars is running the Summer Games series of free tournaments. This is always fun playing in the Promos Stars puts on.
The first round tournaments are good for the bankroll challenged, Paying 5.00 to the top 250 players in every tournament. The top 50 also recieve a round 2 ticket. Check out the web site for more info.

Poker Trial Continues

I deposited 60 buck on full tilt. Trying to stay in bank roll I played small stake tournaments.
Running well I cashed in the 2+ and 3+ tournaments getting 6th in each on for a total of 390.00 .
How can I get better and play the next level.
My thoughts are you have to play the best, at least the best you can afford to play. I played a 75.00 nl and lost, and now I am playing the 120.00 KO on fulltilt I will record some of the tournament.

Update: Busted out in the 120.00 KO But I cashe in the 75.00 18K for 117.00. I have played over 600.00 worth of tournaments on my 60 depo and I am still up.

Coming up on the shark a forum series of tournaments, to see just who will be chosen to play in the Forum Challenge. Top five or ten players from each forum will play to see Just who has the best tournament players. Prizes to be decided.

I have been working alot of late. Several of the managers where I work have quit or are giving there two week notice.

Decided to take a little r&r and float the river. Always good fun.

Supplies: 2 cases of beer, plastic flask of bourbon(no glass allowed), Assorted sodas, fishing gear, flambeunit and pbu, 3 pkt of asst sauages, bread,chips and bottled water.

Most of our trip is swiming, fishing and drinking Or a combination of all three. You can take trips from 5 miles to as many as you care to take, 2-3 days. We stick with the 5-10 mile because we putz around alot.

I have been trying to balace life work and poker.

Poker to be played correctly live takes many hours. When I am going to play The whole day is allotted to poker. I only get 2 days a week off, if I am lucky.

So I can get caught up if I play alot of poker, not seeing my friends, family and not getting to do some of the other things I enjoy.

I have decided to quit playing live for the next month or so(online still goot) and concentrate on some serious fishing, camping, climbing and relaxation. Oklahoma has some great camping and fishing spots as well as some nice swimming/canoe rivers. I try to get some nice pics to post.

My vacation is coming up and I would like to play a couple of decent tournaments and I am willing to drive up to 10 hours. So if you know of a good tourny coming up let me know.

So I am off work for once on a Saturday, yea baby.

I get to the casino around 2pm and I am as nervous as a virgin in a whore house about playing because of my variance of late. ( not a great state of mind to be in)

My head hurts, so I stop and get some motrin from the gift shop and wander around the casino for about an hour donkin some money off in a few slot machines. Feeling a little better I get on the waiting list.

The casino has about 35 tables in the main room and a few more off in another room used for sng or private tournaments. A new 1/2 table opens and I sit in for a hundy (140).

Watch for a while and get a feel for the table. (Please dealer don't cold deck me, I dont think my mental state can take another beat down)
On no I am dealt AK of clubs in front of the button. I make it 10 two callers, flop 9c As 3h. Ck ck goes the table I bet out 30 and the pot is pushed my way. YES the curse of the cold deck is over.

Playing for about an hour I get my stack to 360.00. I cash out and sign up for the 230.00 tournament starting, they only have about 35 players signed up. I would like to thank my sponors on table 24. :)

I play well and proceed to bust out 9th when my 10s dont hold up against AJ. Only top 4 pay.

I buy dinner at the buffet for a friend, which was pretty good although expensive. Shrimp every way prime rib and a chocolate waterfall.

She wants to play after dinner so she gets on the list and I am going to rail. I am still on tilt after busting out in the tourny and need to sit out a while.
Waiting for a table we sit at the wheel of fortune slot machine and I drop in 20.00 about the 8th spin we hit the bonus spin and make 100 on 2 quarters. SWEET
Gambling gods really like me.

Her name is called I give the pep talk and walk to the rail.
She plays well and makes around 100 in just under an hour and walks with the cash. Always a smart move. She is tired and goes home, I decide to play and sit in on a table I have been watching.

The players at the table are very aggressive and loose. Plan to sit back and raise top five hands.

KK and I make it 15 w/85 behind 3 callers flop KsQsQh I ck 1 player bets out 10 we go heads up. River is a spade I bet out 10 like I am making a weak bluff, the villian makes it 25 and I jack him to 50 he calls and I take it down.

I continue to raise my premium hands and the cards start to fall. I walk away at 4am with 1300+

Beautiful night out with just a touch of lighting in the distance.

I am on a bit of a down swing. I have lost my last three or four sessions playing NL.
Not so much that I am playing bad, just running cold. My last session I sat at a table with some decent stacks and 1 player drunk. The drunk guy proceeded to take out three players in a matter of 40 min or so, he was catching every flop. I just waited for him. Finally I caught pocket Queens I raise 4X in the big blind two callers the flop is 3 6 9 ck ck so I bet out double pot because I know he will call even with A high. He reraise me all in which I quickly call with QQ and he shows 36 , GG me.
I have to get out of this funk. My bank roll needs a boost.
I have a few days off starting sat I will go and play late and hope to get in on the weekend warriors money at http://www.cherokeecasino.com/ If I have another bad session I may have to re-evaluate and see if I have changed how I am playing.

But on a better note my live tournament play has been getting better, so I may play in a few tournaments, if I can find any that are not shoot outs (semi-turbo) .

I have been playing freeroll tournaments when I get home from work. I play because I want to get in some practice afterwork and some times on my days off when I dont want to play for cash.
Many of the players in these tournaments play well and some take them a little to serious. I admit I have beat the desk a few times when I take a beat.

The ones I like the best are:

Bodogs 500.00 freeroll runs a few times a day and top prize is 120.00, they used to have a 1k but the opted to split it up.

Railbirds are nice when I can play them not a large prize pool but some decent players after the first few levels.

Full Tilts poker after dark or me freerolls the pay in ftp or tickets to the next round and have from 180 to 400 players. I like the ones for ftp because I can turn them in to $T or tokens by winning a 9 man sng.

Poker Stars has some wsop freerolls running but the are tough turbos with 3k + players.
The Stars micro tournies are decent 10fpp or .10, .25, .50 cent if you have cash on the site.

UB and Absoulte has some decent freerolls. .10 rebuy, 500 play chip assasin, 5000pt on UB or 500 bonus $ all fun.

There are several others that ared 1 + but I doubt you ever get paid on these sites

I am no poker superstar. Considered over the hill by many of the online players. (Only because most of them can't get into a real casino.) No big scores to mention and I dont play the volume that many of the PLB play to keep up there position. So what can I blog that would be helpful to the many players who keep poker alive.
My best advice is just play and have fun. I here so many ask what does it take to go pro. Who cares I have a job. I use poker as a pastime with benefits.
Cash games I play online are micro, live I tend to play with 200-500 starting bank. Live I would say I am better than break even online cash is a looser. Tounament play Iive I am at break even, I play many 35.00 rebuys local and cash or win about 25% of them. I have only played 1 tournament for 350.00 live and that was the Scotty Nguyen Challenge IV, I was the bubble boy[:'(]. But in my defense I had worked all night went to the casino at 6am and played 1/2 nl with 100.00 to win my buy in to the 11am tourny, When I busted out I had been awake for almost 30 hours.The big blind bust my ass w/KK vrs my JJ .

The whole bankroll management thing is not for me. I tried!
Started out pretty well playing and winning some 1.25 sngs , so I say to self just 1 6.50 sng. I won and banked 27.00. Then I played a 3.30 KO on tilt and got 9 bounties, place 5th for a total of 57.50 sitting goot.
Then the demise, 20.00 gone in the daily double, no biggie. Can get it back easy, play an 8.8 18.man for a 26.00 toke, win of course. Go to sign up for the second tier 18 man hit the cash button in stead of the token buyin ahhhh, puts me on tilt and I am out 8th. So now I buy in with the token and get a 75.00 toke.
Now I am down to 20 + cash and a 75.00 token. I get home from work and I see that a 9 man 75.00 sng is just needing 1 more, I sign up.(pays 300+ for first) no t$ bad move I am tired and play like a pussy and out. so I tilt off the rest playing 5 tables .05/.10

50.00 feeler, yea I deposited. I could not decide where to play so I put fitty on Fulltilt to see how it feels.
I was going to play UB, but the new tounament schedule and all the crappy feeder tournies just not good for me. Then the way alternates are let in to the first break just get on my nerves, so pretty much on tilt by the first hand.

I would usually play way out of my roll and go strait for the 8.00-20.00 sngs or just play in a mtt for the roll. I already played a 1.20 sng and won it the went strait for a 6.50 18 man and came in 4th , lost 3.00 in a cash game after being up to 5.30 on the table.

I have no patience when it come to playing low stakes, so I am going to use a bank roll management system.

Chris Ferguson Guidelines:

Never buys into a cash game or a Sit & Go with more than 5 percent of total bankroll (there is an exception for the lowest limits: you is allowed to buy into any game with a buy-in of $2.50 or less).

Do not buy into a multi-table tournament for more than 2 percent of total bankroll, but you are allowed to buy into any multi-table tournament that costs $1.

If at any time during a No-Limit or Pot-Limit cash-game session the money on the table represents more than 10 percent of total bankroll, you must leave the game when the blinds reach him.

I think a lot of players would do well to apply these rules. One great benefit from this approach to bankroll management is that it ensures you'll be playing in games you can afford. You'll never play for very long in a game that's over your head because, when you're losing, you'll have no choice but to drop down to a smaller game. You can continue to sharpen your game at that lower limit until your bankroll allows you to move up and take another shot. These rules also prevent you from being completely decimated by a bad run of cards.

Dropping down and playing lower limits is difficult for a lot of players. They view it as a failure and their egos get in the way. Many want to remain at the level they'd been playing and win back their losses. But this can lead to some pretty severe tilt - and that can go through a bankroll in a hurry. I know that dropping down was difficult for me in my run from $1 to $20,000. When I first played in the $25/$50 game, I lost. Sticking to my rules, I dropped down to the $10/$25 game. I had a losing streak there and had to go down to $5/$10. That was tough. After playing $25/$50, a $5/$10 game was boring to me.

But I had the discipline to stick to my rules, and that motivated me to play better at the lower levels. I really didn't want to lose any more because I knew the consequences: I'd have to play even lower and work even harder to get back to where I'd been, which could take as long as a month. If you ever find yourself bored or frustrated playing at the lower limits, you're obviously not playing well. Take a break from the game. Often, stepping away can give you a fresh perspective and heightened motivation to play well when you return.

There are a couple of more tips I'd like to share regarding bankroll management. First, you should never play in a game that is beyond your bankroll simply because the game seems to be soft that day. It's never soft enough to risk money that puts your bankroll in jeopardy. The other point is that you should avoid playing in games that are at the top of your bankroll limits, when a lower game offers more opportunity for profit.

I'm confident that by sticking to these sound bankroll management rules, I'll make it to my $100,000 goal. These rules are sure to help you as well, as you pursue your own poker ambitions.

Poker is not for kids

I have not played much poker this month, a few freerolls on line and some live cash ring last tuesday night.
Unfortunate that I decided to drink and have fun playing while playing. Because the local sharks got most of my 200.00 I bought in with, the rest went to beer, food and tips. I did have a great time. WOO HOO

I will continue my no cash play online until April 1, 2008. This is when I will start my quest to prove poker is not just for kids.
I have not decided on a starting bankroll, I don't think 500 is enough to play the 50.00 + buy in tournys. I will have some time to decide on buy in.

Taking a Short Break

I have had a bad week and need a break. So I am going to take a 30 day break from playing live and playing on line. I will still play online for free and start from $0 and see if I can make a little.

During my break I am going to do some research and reading. I want to get Action Dans book on cash play, few books on tells and some on MTT play.

I will stay active in a few forums and may play a few stakes if I can get them. Playing freerolls offered by diffrent forums is a good way to make a small bankroll.

Taking a break is a good thing and will allow me to do some fishing/camping on the white riverin NE Arkansaw. Sometimes bateries need a recharge.

When I start playing for cash at the end of my break I am moving up a level.

Demise of a poker forum

My first good online experiance, I have been a member for two years and have met alot of great online personalities who I would like to meet in person some day. For now I will say good game and move on with a heavy heart.

I am a member of several on line forum giants like 2+2, Pocket Fives and Rail Birds, But none of these have the same feeling of home. (tears) Wander thru cyber space untill I find a new place I can call home.
One of the members of ajpoker has started his own forum and for now I will be there.

I prefer the staking sites because of the ranking board and the competition to be the best player. Pocket fives has a leader board, but my bank roll does not allow me to play in the amount of tournament it takes to stay on top of the board, nor do I want to.....

I am a sng specialist. I have played 450 - 500 sng tournaments and I have an ROI of just under 15% for the 27.00 and around 7% in the 16.00 from 1.10 to 6.50 I am in the negative.
Which is much improved from last year and so far I am on track this year to be back in black with my earnings.

Happy New Year and Best Wishes to all.

My 2008 goals and I have a few.

I am going to continue trying to make better instructional poker videos. I really enjoy playing poker and this also helps me get better. All the feed back is welcome, good and bad.
I still need a better recording and editing program and I will have to set up my own web site to upload my vids. Google is the only site I know that allows large files 10 min + to upload. Google has some issues and all of my vids come out blurry.
With all that I will try to put out as many as possible with the time I have.

To be succesful in instructional videos, I will have to ramp up my MTT game. This is what most players seem to want, a big score. lol
I would consider my SNG game to be above par. During the learning curve my roi is not great, but I am close to being in the plus $$$ on Fulltilt and Soon to be on Poker Stars.

My largest win last year was 1005.00 (also my goal) and my goal for this year will be to take down a 10k + prize.
I will also push my return on investment(roi) to 15% + in sng tournaments.

I have made a training video, my first attempt. There are many people more qualified to teach than I am, but I am trying to help some of the younger/ new players on a few of my poker forums.
I am sure I will get a little flamage but I would like some feed back on my play. Good and Bad, even though I won.

Man I hate my job. Working 60+ hours a week sucks. No benifits, no bonus, no nothing.
I have decided to give poker another try. I have 4 days to build a serious bankroll. I will need to reach 10k or close to it in the next 100 hours.
Guess I will need to get a good place in one of the next three tourny's.

Up date::
No big tourny wins, I ended up playing 4 my best finish 28 / 116.

Did a pretty good job on the 1/2 table, paid all of my buyins and was still able to bank 700. Not bad over all.
The tounament series is nearly over, down to 27 in the ME.
Tough tournament. 20 WSOP bracelet holders in the room, 1 hall of fame player and 1 soon to be T.J. Cloutier

Foot ball today I need some time off from poker.
I was playing tired yesterday, good thing they were free sattys.
My job keeps me tired.

Trying to come up with 500 extra$ for the Local Scotty Nguyen Tournament this week, don't think I will make it to many bills. I may need a new job, I dont get paid enough to do what I do.

I may try poker again, last time I went 6 month playing almost daily and I have improvedmy game 100% since then. If I can get 5k in the bank I will give it a shot. I can always get a job.

Back in the saddle baby

I have been playing poorly in tournaments on stars. So I made a change to full tilt to see if the change of venue would help.

Dropped 40 on to the account and started playing some small sng's (2.20) First night I played well and cashed 5 of 9 with a 1st two 2nds and two 3rds. When I got on today lost 6 strait. I went in with the best I died like the rest. :-{)

So the Gambler in me took over. I moved up and played an 8.70 tier for 26.00 and placed 1st then played a 3 and 10 buyin knock out (bounty)

Made a few bounties but did not cash.

I was on the short stack now, about 10 in account + 26.00 T$. So what I am a gambler. I buy in to the satty for the Fifty Fifty for 6.60 and take the rest of the 4$ to a cash nl table.

Now I got a ticket to the Fifty Fifty and my cash is back around 10.00.

Quite a slump

I have been on a huge slump of late could not cash in crap.
Maybe it was the way I was playing, I would play great first hour or two the just fall apart. I played a few sng and could not win luckly I could still rampage with the best of them to win some good pots in cash games.
Today I may have cleared the hump, played a 16.00 sng and won then played a 6.50 and won. Decided to try a 27.00 sng but no luck.
I am going to play a little more tonight and see how it goes, But I have just downed first beer so I probly wont play much more.

I am seriously thinking about getting a teacher/ coach. How do you feel about coaches?

Always keep learning, this is the key to pushing your poker skill to the next level.
I found an article on P5's by jennifear, The Resteal.
After reading I put some of the new found knowledge to use, which got me a few more chips than I would have accumulated if I had not read this article.
Did this one bit of information drive my game to the next level? No but it helped me improve my over all game will a new tool to use when playing.

Learning is an ongoing process, keep gathering those tool and soon you will have enough tools to get the job done.

I have started playing more tournaments online as well as in person.I have had some success but not alot of cash.
I played my first live and in person tournament and played quite well finishing 28 of 268 in The Scotty Nguyen Challenge 330.00 nl. Bubbled but for my first tourny and being awake for 30+ hours finishing one out of the money, EXCELLENT. I could have easily made the final table if I would have not made a move against the big blind who had KK against my jj, I could have got away from the hand if I had thought about it before I call his reraise. I think sleep or lack of there of got the best of me.

Online tournaments I have won a 180 man sng, place 4 in another and won or cashed in several 45 man and a few 2.20 mtt with 3-4 hundred players.
I have played several rebuy's with no luck, I will have to change my stratagy in these.

Over the next few months I will play in some $25 to $100 buy in tourny online. Expect place high or win at least a few. I get a decent bank roll and look out.
Any one got a lead on some nice brick and mortar tournaments let me know, hard to find them in Oklahoma.

I have been staking players for some small tournaments and sng's.
Not have much luck, I keep thinking maybe I expect to much, so I play some of the same tournaments I stake. Am I that much better because I am winning cash in most that I play, not much luck in freerolls though.
I won several 45 man sng's, got 4 in a 180 man and cashed in several 2.20 mtt.

So I now looking for some players who can cash.

So you have read all the poker books you could get your hands on, watched every poker show on television and you have won some money in your weekly home game. Now what? I will give you a few tips to get you started
The first thing I want you as a poker player to do is set a goal. Where do you want your poker skills to be in a week, month, and year? Will you be happy just beating your friends in the Saturday night game, beating your local 100 200 no limit game at the casino or maybe loftier goals. Win a major tournament.
No matter your goal, you will need to chart your progress, how long you play, what limits, game type, per hour win loss, win loss totals per game and running totals. I know it sounds like a lot of work, but it is absolutely necessary to be able to track results and progress, if you are serious about improving your game.
Now if you are good with Excel or other programs this will be easy, if not there are some great sites on line like Cardplayer.com that offer charting free if you sign up. (Also free)
I use a system that allows me to preserve my bankroll. I have adjusted it to suit my style of play and bankroll. Four winning sessions and I move up to the next highest limit, four loosing sessions and I move down in limits. This helps to preserve my bankroll when I am having a bad run and allows me to make more when in a good run. You can adjust it to fit your bankroll. All beginners should try this it works. Just starting out playing for cash, beginners should use a two game limit.
I will suggest that you play at one of the free online sites to get the feel for the games if you have not. These are great learning tools and you only loose play money. Play an assortment of games and find, which one you may have a knack, many pro players are strong in one game but not as strong in others. My strongest game is No Limit with Limit coming in a close second. What’s yours?
